Default 2012 S60: Can I play mp3s recorded on DVD?

Hi. I have a 2012 S60 T5. The manual says that the audio system supports playing music recorded on DVDs. I tried recording mp3s on a DVD at home but the car can't read the DVD (it's a DVD-RW). Does anyone know what formats are supported. FYI, I have the standard audio system with no navigation.

Thanks!

I think only mp3, but do not think the system is setup to read music off of DVD media. why not just use a 128GB memory stick and be done? Works on both my S60's usb ports in the arm rests.

Good question. I have a pretty large audio book on the usb (3 hours). If I switch to another clip, I lose the position of where I was with the book. Therefore, I want to use the dvd for the audio book and the usb for music. I'll have to try DVD-R/+R next to see if it's a problem with the RW format.

Hello. I have tried with different discs from brands like TDK and Verbatim.
Unfortunately the TDK does not work at all and the Verbatim works sometimes.

Is there an suggestion what media to use?

You can store data in an MP3/WMA format and get about 1 minute/mb of play time with a moderate sample rate. Music CDs store data in a less dense encoding so you get about 1 minute/10 mb ("WAV" file formats). The thing DVDs and music CDs do is they have tracks or chapters which are individual files (DVD videos do the same but splice the chapters seamlessly). The S60 owners manual suggests you can use home burned DVDs and CDs in either an audio/video format or in a data format so it sounds like you are in luck. I'd say try both. If you rip the book on tape to a data CD, you should get about 10 hours of play for an MP3, M4A or WMA file (Windows Media player or iTunes can do the rip). If you use DVD, you can try using as a data disk and save the MP3 files to see if it will play. I don't think you want a video format like AVI or DIVX. Don't use double sided or high density and when you burn the CD or DVD, burn at the SLOWEST speed to avoid data buffer underruns and errors. so if you can rip the book onto your PC, its just a matter of getting the car to read a data cd. I've had good luck with Memorex "music" quality 800M CDs. If all else fails, use your smart phone and blue tooth/cable... I will admit my favorite feature of my 2012 VW CC is that it can take SD memory (up to 32G) and displays all the folders and MP3 details. That's 22 DAYS of music on one chip.
