I've had my 2012 S60 T5 for three weeks and I'm still in love with it but I've noticed a lot of wind noise, starting around 45 m.p.h., coming from the side mirror(s). My old 2001 S80 had no mirror noise at all so maybe I'm just noticing "normal" wind noise. Has anyone else noticed this?

now if its an extreme ammount of noise you might as well get it checked out under warrenty

 

YES - I have a 2011 XC90 with BLIS (blind spot detection). I noticed wind noise from 55MPH up. Drove me crazy - I did everything and finally found the problem, might be the same for other models.

Looking at the mirrors on XC90's I notice there is a small gap between the painted portion of the mirror and the plastic portion. About 1/8 of an inch. I wrapped tape completly around the mirror in that location and took it out on the highway. Noise gone!!! Will do a permanent fix by using black silicone to "level out" this gap.

 

My wife and I just bought a 2012 S60 at the end of September. She noticed the same problem coming from the passenger side mirror. It sounds like a high pitched whistle. Took the car in and got one of the service managers to ride along. I was able to replicate the noise and get him to hear it. Evidentially the gaskets between the side mirrors and the body of the car were no good. Take your car in and tell them that there is a "fix" in the system for the gaskets. They should replace them at no cost and this should solve your problem.

 

might also be if the door panels have been removed, and plastic not attached correctly, lets air in

 

Chucktown, thanks so much for the advice. Like you, I have a brand new 2012 S60 and noticed the EXACT same problem. I had called the dealer a few days ago about the problem and they say they know of no known issues, so I'll use your information to make them look a little harder.

I LOVE this car (I had one as a loaner and liked it so much that I custom ordered one the next day). But, this annoying whistle has caused my appreciation for the vehicle to diminish. Hopefully the dealer can figure out the fix that you recommended.

 

My 2012 S60 T6 had this same problem of wind noise and whistling from the passenger side-view mirror at highway speeds. The whistling was very noticeable when driving in a cross wind. The information posted in this form is correct and there is a fix for this problem. The dealer's service department replaced the seals around both side-view mirrors and the problem was completely solved.

A tech bulletin was listed in a different forum (RTJ 23725). The current part numbers for the seals to fix this problem are 31335274-1 and -9.

If it hadn't been for the information posted in this forum, I probably would have had to go through a trial-and-error process over a couple of visits to find the correct repair because the dealer hadn't heard of this and was going to "try some things."

 

I have a 2012 xc90 and have the same noise.

 

Glad I'm not the only one. Good to see there is an active TSB for it. I get a lot of noise from the passenger side.
