60k maintenance recommendations
Hi Everybody,
I've read the forums before and have just joined.
I'm looking for recommendations regarding 60k maintenance. I live in Maryland near Washington, DC, and while everything is expensive here, I thought I'd become used to it until I saw what the dealer wants for 60k maintenance.
They would charge $700, which includes:
Engine oil and filter, replace
Cabin air filter, replace
Brake hoses and lines, check for damage/leaks
Brake pads/discs, check
Check and adjust fluid levels
Clean inside of windshield in front of camera (Vehicles with camera for collision warning)
Driveshaft joints, check for wear/play
Driveshafts, check boots
Engine coolant, check and adjust antifreeze rating/anti-corrosion agent
Engine, check for leaks
Engine/Transmission/Timing, gear check for leaks
Exhaust system/ check for damage leaks
Fuel lines and filter, check for damage/ leaks
Headlamp wiper washer, check/adjust
Parking brake, check/adjust
Rear suspension, check for wear
Service Reminder Indicator (SRI), reset
Spare tire check for damage, wear, and tire pressure
Steering/front suspension, check
Time-based Reminder - Vehicles with temporary tire sealing kit, check and replace (Every 4 Years - if applicable)
Tires, check pressure, wear and condition
Top up engine oil
Windshield wiper/washer, check/adjust
I have *always* used the dealer for maintenance and repairs, but I suspect this is overpriced, even for the DC area.
Can you please advise what service you may insist on doing at the dealer and what services you may do elsewhere? For example, I do alignments at Merchants and usually do windshield wipers there. I could do oil change there, too.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Doreen

Here's the factory maintenance guide
http://esd.volvocars.com/local/us/20...nty-manual.pdf
For your car, the 60K service is a minor service from a parts perspective (only an oil change), but the factory recommends the first broad inspection of the car for potential wear items. The price suggests 4-5 hours of shop labor which is pretty extensive for an inspection and topping fluids. The oil change alone should run about $100 so the rest is the inspection items. You may want to call other dealers for comparison and look for any offers of a "100 point" safety inspection. Also look at your dealer's web site for service specials.

In many cases, services are a rip off. Just do the physical replacement items. In your case, that's an oil change and cabin filter. It will be way cheaper and you're getting the same service. Any technician who wants to make money inspects the car no matter what. I inspect them all the same, be it for an oil change or an overpriced service.

Hi MT6127 and ES6T, thanks to both of you for confirming what I suspected... amazing prices in this area, and I am planning retirement and wondering how to afford this car. Your advice is very helpful.
I priced the standard package for 60,000 mile maintenance at 4 dealers in a 25-mile radius near DC and got these amazing figures: $693, $537, $530 and $395. Going with your advice will save me even more money. And I do know a local mechanic who will appreciate my support. Thank you very much!

Service
I recently took my 2015 V60 to Bill Kidd's Volvo in Cockeysville MD for a 50K service. I went there, knowing it would be more expensive that an independent shop because it is a "Certified" used car and I knew they would find any fault including those covered under the warranty, Here is what they did:
Change oil & filter
Replace battery (under warranty) because the stop/start function was not working
Per the multi-point check list the following was inspected/recorded:
Fluids: oil, transmission, brake reservoir, power steering, coolant, window washer
Electrical: lights, horn, turn signals, hazard & brake lamps
Windshield washer , wiper operation &
hoses for leaks & damage
Air filter
drive belts
Cabin air filter (OK - not replaced)
Cliate control operation
Leaks
CV joints & boots
Exhaust systen -leaks, hangers, loose parts
Drive shaft, transmission & shift linkage
Steering & linkage
shocks/struts
Brake system - lines, hoses, parking brake & wheel end play and bearing noise
Brakes - measured & recorded pad thickness
Tires - rotated and tread depth measured.
Total: $275 - For a difference of more than $400, I'll clean the windshield myself!
