Some Volvo models have the interior blower motor come on with the car off to cool the cabin. Are you sure your A/C is not working now while you are driving.

It is normal for the blower to run when the car is parked and the keys are in your pocket.

Something to do with drying the AC lines.

Now ... as for why your AC is not working, I have no idea.

I also thought that this could be normal so I waited 1 hour...still running. So I pulled the fuse (so my battery doesn't die) and waited 3 hours, put the fuse back in with the car still off and the blower fired right up as soon as I plugged the fuse in. It will not stop running???

Maybe the fan resistor went bad.
Would be best to have the A/C codes pulled.

Default I have the Same Problem

I've got the same problem happening right now with my 1996 850

I turned the car on and off several times, left it running for 30mins then pulled the fuse.

Where should I start looking for source of the problem?

The blower motor resistor might be bad.

If the resistor is on the motor, it is not the problem. I have the same problem and replaced the motor and have not solved the issue. Otherwise where is the resistor?

If yours is a 01 then it is in the housing with the blower motor.

Okay, I have been playing the game of pulling the fuse for about two months now. I think it's time to finally figure this out....where is the resistor on my 04'? Is it part of the blower?

Thanks, Mark

Kind of you have to remove the blower motor to get to it.

Is there a writeup/video of this process floating around anywhere? Thanks.

Default AC on when engine off

My 2004 S60 AC comes on when the engine is off and the keys are in my pocket. I know it's normal to have a short on time to dry out the AC lines, but mine sometimes goes for an hour or more. It usually does this after I have left the car and its vicinity, thus draining my battery. It is sporadic. It seems to happen more in the summer. Does this still sound like the blower motor resistor?

It can take sometime. It can be annoying. It has to dry the evaporator. A volvo dealer can disable this for you.

Is this something that only a volvo dealer can do (computer reprogramming) or can any "Joe" mechanic do it? If so please let the rest of us know so we don't get raked of the coals by the dealers.
Thanks
