Default AC/Interior Fan running without Keys?

Yesterday I came out to my car after lunch and noticed the interior fan (all the vents inside the car) was running on HIGH and the car was locked and I had the key? I am not sure how long it ran but I thought it was weird that the ventilation system was running inside the car when I had the keys? Is this normal? I noticed it did it again later on that day. I know the radiator fan can run after the car is off but I have never heard of the interior ventilation system working on its own.

When I first noticed it running, I had been out of the car for about an hour. And of course the keys were NOT in the ignition. Forgot to mention it before but my car is an 01 S60 2.4T

Thanks for the help!!

I did a search and it looks like this might be normal for condensation/mildew removal. If this is normal, is there a concern with how long it runs or with pulling from the battery? I just want to make sure it isn't an electrical problem.

Thanks!

hello, I'm new to the forum, I've experienced the same exact phenomenon. But seeing as we have both experienced it the exact same way, It sounds like normal operating.

I live in Phoenix and needless to say it's extremely hot here. I've often noticed my fan running without the engine running or the keys in the ignition exactly as you described. It seems to happen more frequently the warmer it is. I assumed this was to keep the interior from becoming too hot. I've never had a dead battery from it, so I never really worried about it.

Newbie here. I have noticed the same thing happening, sometimes hours after driving it is still running. I did have a problem with it running the battery down, but the car was due for a new battery anyway.

The interior fans are running to pull out heat from the engine bay. Most turboed cars wish they had this. the only ones i know of are volvo's and audi's.
