Airbag sensor light - will the airbag deploy?
Hi All,
New member here - I spent a fair bit of time searching forums on this and saw conflicting answers. Not sure if starting a new thread will help, but here it goes:
I'm looking to buy a friend's 2008 S60 2.5T. It's a really nice car, with a good one-owner history, etc. But I think it could go from a good to a bad deal depending on the answer. Her airbag sensor light came on, and she took it to the Volvo dealer. They poked and prodded around, and based on things like the fact that the system seems to still "arm"/"disarm" based on the presence of weight on the seat, they suggested the airbags are fine and should work. They also said their option for remedying the light would be a costly replacement of the hardware in the steering column. And so all parties decided to just leave it. However, as noted above, I did find some forum posts where users claimed if that light is on then the airbags will not in fact deploy in an accident - even if they themselves are fine. Is there a consensus on this? Because that could add a ton to the cost of the vehicle if things have to be swapped out for it to be safe.
Thanks!
