Default airbag light going off

I am trying ot get my airbag light to turn off. I have replaced the airbag with a used but non deployed airbag. We have also replaced, instead of clearing the airbag module.

I do not know what comes next. If everything is ok, when I turn on the ignition shouldn't the airbag light go out? Does it have to be cleared somehow?

If it does not go off what next? If it needs to be cleared, can that be done and with what instrument?

The only remaining thing that I can think of is the seatbelt. It is quite loose and has been since the airbag deployed. Now I think it might be related to the airbag deployment. Meaning the seatbelt or at least its tensioner, must be replaced.

Is this true? The seat belt on the drivers side is quite loose. At first I thought it was just foriegn matter in the belt, now I am not so sure.

If the airbag light does not go off does one need to clear it? If it still does not go off after beiing cleared (or comes back on again after being cleared) could it be the seatbelt tensioner?

Thanks in advance.

Respectfully,

Newport_j

You need to go get the codes checked out to see if there is a problem with any of the other SRS components. If you have fixed the problem then you have to go get the codes erased, the light will not turn itself off

Okay, that is what I am after! I thought the airbag light needed to be cleared. What instrument does one use to do this? If the airbag light comes back on after clearing, what instrument is used to see if there is a problem with any of the other SRS components. I only have the instrument to check and clear the check engine light.

Thanks.

DiCE tool will tell you what is up with each and every computer module on the car. Usually only the dealer has it. A Volvo specialty shop should have one too. I bought mine online and use it with VIDA software.

Aliexpress.com : Buy Newest software 2013.09 Stable Mb star C3 mercedes benz multiplexer with All New Relay from Reliable benz tool suppliers on Shenzhen OEMScan Technology Co., Ltd.

Click on the link above from Aliexpress. It's like ebay for Asia. The website is owned by Alibaba.com which is a gigantic business to business company.

What type of codes does it put out? it is clearly much more than an OBD II, it offers much more in the way of car operation analysis.

I got some codes from my mechanic, but they seemed to have an OBD II flavor to them. Things like PO**.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It's a Volvo specific tool. You don't need it really. Your mechanic should have one already. Or find a Volvo mechanic who does. The DiCE tool requires VIDA software too. Again, it's not for the average DIY mechanic. Much easier to find a Volvo specific garage that already has it up and running.

Those PXXXX codes are OBD2 codes. Google P0303 (zero three zero three)

I believe the seat belt pretensioner needs to be replaced when the airbag deploys. Once replaced, I would have the car inspected at a garage, or the next owner could be injured in an accident.

replacing pyro seat belt pre-tensioners following accident
