Alternator Seized causing Serpentine Belt to Snap and Damage the Timing
I am curious if anyone else has had this problem. My alternator in my 2016 Volvo with 47k miles on it seized at a traffic light and the serpentine belt snapped and managed to get under the timing cover and damage the timing. Volvo wants 10k for a head and alternator, and no independent shops will touch it except to replace the entire engine. I am just curious if this is a Volvo problem or a one off.
Unfortunately I have fixed many cases of serpentine failure causing bent valves beginning with the first aluminum block engines in 1991. I'm surprised you can't find an independent to do a valve job.
