Default AWD?

Okay ive done some searching and actually found in this forums something that disturbs and puzzles me.

Im getting the2004 S60 R, so am i to understand that my car is only AWD when going up to 30 mph, then goes to FWD. Cause if that is the case, i must say, not cool. I cant find a clear answer on this so i figured i would post.

This is what I have heard. I have AWD and to be honest I can't truly tell if it is there past 30Mph.

That's wild, I never heard any car using part-time AWD. Disturbing indeed considering the premium for having all wheel drive. But maybe with DSTC, AWD above 30mph isn't needed all that much. Except in road racing/rally. I wonder if there is any kind of work-around, as in an ECU mod to force full-time AWD...

In 2004 AWD was only available on the 2.5T. It did not have STC but DSTC was an option at $695.00. TRACS was standard.

Page 90 of the Owner's Manual has this:

All Wheel Drive (AWD) - general information
Your Volvo can be equipped with permanent All Wheel Drive, which means that power is distributed automatically between the front and rear wheels. Under normal driving conditions, most engine's power is directed to the front wheels. However, if there is any tendency for the front wheels to spin, an electronically controlled coupling distributes power to the wheels that have the best traction.
It would appear that it is not part time, just self-selective.
