Default Best way to change tranny fluid

Hi! Just bought an 02 s60 2.4 n/a with 98,000 miles on it. I love this car! Anyway, just did a tune-up, plugs, fuel filter, air filter, cabin filter oil change ect. I bought a case of the mobil 3309 tranny fluid after reading some other posts on here. I'm a little bit worried about changing the fluid becaues of the miles on it already. I don't know if was ever done before now. What should I do? Take it to a dealer and let them rape, I mean... doa full flush, or just change out a couple quarts at a time? Also, what is a good price to pay to have the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, ect replaced at 105,000 since I'm getting close? Thanks in advance for the replies.
Later,Jon.

I understand a dump and fill is very safe but should be repeated at least 2x for a more complete replacement. I've done this safely on the last 3 ATX vehicles I've owned and will be doing it to my S60 this weekend. (If my 3309 arrives... [:-])

I just bought my first S60 a few months ago with 125,000 miles on it. It's the 2.4 non turbo FWD model w/ the 5 speed AW auto. Nothing fancy, but it's got navigation and gets 35mpg on level freeway between 65 and 70mph. The worst it does around town is about 23mpg. I did a tranny flush today with the "modified method" I got from the guys on the Swedespeed.com forum. I bought Mobil 3309 and then found out that Toyota's Type IV is also the JWS3309 spec, so I bought 2 quarts of that to make sure I had enough. My S60 is a 2004, so the ATF comes out of the top instead of goes into the top of the radiator. I had to buy a 1" i.d. hose to fit over the top radiator outlet, but all went well and I replaced all of the ATF. I was surprised how fast the old ATF comes out of the car and into the milk container when the engine is running and you're shifting through the gears. I was never able to go through the gears (at about 10 sec. each) before I got about 3 or 3 1/2 qts. out. But I filled 4 gallon jugs with flushed ATF and went through 13 1/2 qts of new ATF into the tranny. I'm hoping that all that new ATF doesn't cause a problem in that aging tranny. I have no idea how long ago the old ATF was changed, but it was pretty dark. Also, I paid my local independent mechanic about $1,000 to do the timing belt and water pump + check brakes and do oil change, etc. at 125k. I understand that's not bad. But now I do my own oil changes and the tranny flush was no problem. Good luck with your job.

Well, I did the drain and fill(take out drain plug, then put a little over 3 quarts back in) 3 times in the last 4000 miles and everything still shifts good. Hopefully I got all the old fluid out. Now I just have to have the timing belt, tensioner, water pump done.

The flush out when the car is running is by far the best. I have done this over four times on two of my volvos. I would not worry about the first flush of a car at 100k. I used the IPD kit from my s60 2.4i. Volvo even states on s60's not to change until it needs it.

My records went with the car when I sold it but I think it was $850 for my s60. Unlike the older volvos, I would not change the water pump just because of a TB change. My old 91 940 turbo was leaking every time so it was a must.
