1. What kind is it?

2. Yes people have done this before.

3. Don't know if there are writeups on this forum or not.

4. I ran one and it was a crappy BOV to begin with and leaked a lot. Ran rich every time it released to the atmosphere.

Don't all turbos have a BOV anyway?

If the answer to the above is YES, then why do you want to replace your current BOV?

NO

All turbo's do not have BOV's.

Our turbo's have what is called a CBV (Compressor Bypass Valve)

"A compressor bypass valve (CBV), also known as a compressor relief valve or diverter valve, is a vacuum-actuated valve designed to release pressure in the intake system of a turbocharged car when the throttle is lifted or closed. This air pressure is re-circulated back into the non-pressurized end of the intake (before the turbo) but after the mass airflow sensor."

A BOV is this, "A blowoff valve, (BOV, sometimes hooter valve, not to be confused with a dump valve) does basically the same thing, but releases the air to the atmosphere. This creates a very distinctive sound desired by many who own turbocharged sports cars. Some blowoff valves are sold with trumpet shaped exits manufactured by brands such as TurboXS more specifically the RFL blow off valve that amplify the hissing sound, as not all blowoff valves are the same, some make different noises and these designs are normally marketed towards the tuner crowd. For some owners this is the only reason to get a blowoff valve. Motor sports governed by the FIA have made it illegal to vent unmuffled blowoff valves to the atmosphere. In the United States, Australia and parts of Europe cars featuring unmuffled blowoff valves are illegal for street use."

I don't know why anyone would want to put a BOV on an automatic. Why waste your money. Buy a few cases of synthetic engine oil, oil filters, and flush your tranny with the money.

as he said, "his friend gave him his old BOV" and if you like the sound it produces when letting off the throttle then to each his own...

Sorry, I just think a BOV belongs nowhere near a 2wd S60 automatic transmission grocery getter. BUT, if you can stick it on there without spending a dime, why not, at least to see how dumb it is and drive around fast and furious.

Zero, not trying to be hard on you here, I just make a living making fun of people with stuff on their cars like this (Spoliers, altezza tail lights, etc - these parts have no taste).

Shoulda bought a WRX (thats what I keep tellin myself).

Just my .02

So a BOV can only be used on a STI or EVO or GTR because....

A BOV or CBV is a must for any turbo. It prolongs the life of the turbine from excessive pressure when releasing the throttle. It doesnt matter if its an Auto or a Stick. Both need the same protection.

Not trying to pick a fight....

I agree. For most of these folks applications, the stock CBV is more than enough.
BUt it was what...free....so lets give him the benefit of the doubt and say go for it

Like on my 745t. it is an Auto, but once I get some money and a real turbo, I would drop a real BOV on one of my pipes.

Oh..I forgot this in my first post.....The new EVO MR and GTR's are Autos.

I just thinking wasting money on that stuff is dumb. Also, time is money. And you should put one on your car, I like that Brick! I wish I had one to play with.

Not that I care about Evo's and stuff, but those are DSG trannys in those I think.
