Default Brake Pads, Dash Rattle, Service Indicator

Hello,

I have an '02 S60 2.4T on 17" factory rims with Toyo Proxes 4 (great tire!).

After "skimming" all of the posts, I have a few questions:

1. Are there any particular "low dust" brakes pads that are recommend for these cars? The brake dust is the only complaint I have with the OEM pads.

2. I am planning on doing the brake pad replacement myself. I have replaced pads on many motorcycles, but never a car. After readng the posts on how it is done, the only quesiton that remains is what is the silicon grease for and where does it go???

2. There is a very annoying rattle comming from dash near the defroster vent on the passenger side. Does anyone know how to track this rattle down and destroy it?

3. I have read the posts on resetting the "Time For Regular Service" message. I have tried turing the key to position 1, then holding the odometer button. All that happens is I get a single beep and nothing else. I have also tried holding the odometer button in and then turning the key to position 1, but nothing at all happens then. Any help?

Great site guys! Adding the ability to search the fourms would be a very helpful addtion!

Thanks,

Jeremy

1. Mintex Red Box, I have been driving/racing cars for years, and never had a better pad on for the price.

2nd 2. recreate rattle, track it down to a spot, and remove whatever is in the way, tighten or clamp down what rattles, put it back together. See if you can recreate the rattle again. There really is no fast way to get rid of rattles.

3 "Here is How I do it.
Turn to key position I
Push in the Trip button and hold. When the milage disappears then turn to position II wait about 3 to 5 Slow seconds and release. Also look for the ! in the little window between the Speedo and Tach. If it flashes after the 3rd flash release. " quoted from tech, worked for me.

Thanks for the quick reply.

1.I am having trouble locating Mintex pads online from stores in the US. They all seem to be from the UK. Does anyone know where to buy them?

2. Can you please tell me what the "silicon grease" is used for when doing the brake pad replacement?

3. I am still not having any luck with resetting the service reminder. I turn the key to pos. 1, then press and hold the odometer button. The mileage never dissappears as is referenced in several posts... all that happens is I get a single beep and then "045" is displayed in the driver info screen. Any thoughts???
