I have a 2008 Volvo S40. I have recently discovered a rattle/buzzing sound. The sound is hard to find. It comes only when driving over 55/mph. Its seems to be either coming from the dash/radio area, or the cup holder area.

Any ideas?

I've got a s40 2006, and have the same problem with a rattle under the dashboard. Can't quite identify exactly where it's coming from, but at 50mph or more, it's quite noticeable.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Any ideas? I did notice its more profound on windier days...heat shield maybe?

 

My V50 developed a rattle that I thought was in the dash. It turned out to be the visor. It is amazing how the sound propagates.

I have an '08 s40 and I get a rattle from the dash/instrument panel area, sounds like its behind the steering wheel. I hear it at low speeds only though, over slightly bumpy surfaces. I've been putting my hand all over the dash to see if I can find where it is coming from, but no luck. Next time I will check the visor like AutoNaut said and hope it takes care of it! Nope, not the visor.

 

My S40 dash rattle / squeek turned out to be the rear view mirror. At the back of the mirror is a plastic casing, this tends to rattle (it's more of a squeeking rattle) on uneven surfaces at lower speeds. It drove me mad for months as I couldn't figure out where it was coming from.

It's now been silenced forever by a mixture of superglue and brute strength!
