Default Brand new CPO '06 S60R owner!

I am absolutely in love with this car! I live in Reno and it has been snowing like crazy and I am loving this car's AWD. http://www.BillPearceVolvo.com/inven...34968/Reno/NV/ Dealership's link to the car if interested. They haven't taken it down yet

So in my first post I have a question. The one thing I would like in this car is an Aux input for my iPhone's iPod. Is there any sort of cheap Aux option I can plug behind the radio? Or one that my dealership can install for me? I've seen the Volvo iPod option and it's pretty damn expensive. I am happy with controlling my music from my iPhone's screen and I just want to be able to plug into a female aux connection if possible. Any cheaper solutions?

I love this car though! It's a blast to drive up mountain roads, it feel's impossible to make this car go out of control. It's amazing. Love the stability control. Thanks again! Happy to be a Volvo owner!

I'd like to know. If there is a reasonable option too. Other than the cheesy radio station reciever thing, there has to be something out there

Wow, look's pretty cool. I don't know if I would feel too comfortable installing the thing though... There doesn't really seem to be much documentation on physically installing the thing, only how to do the firmware updates. I wonder if my local Volvo dealership could install this for me and not charge me tons of $$$. Probably not as it is not made by them... I burnt some CDs for my new '06 s60r and man the sound system is amazing. Sound's so much better than the local radio stations. I'm so in love with my car. An Aux port is the one thing I would love to have though!

Hey,

So I eventually spoke with the Volvo dealership I purchased my car from, and as I thought they didn't really have any practical solutions from Volvo directly. They referred me to a few different car audio specialists here in the area and I ended up setting up an appointment to have a hardwired fm modulator installed. After the parts and labor is complete the entire setup will cost about $200. Does anyone have any experience with a hardwired fm modulator setup? Apparently it connects directly to the car's antenna, so there is practically no interference and the sound quality the guy assured me is pretty good. Not as good as CD of course, but good. I love the sound system of my new S60R but the difference between CD and Radio is night and day I believe. I've been listening to the same 4 CDs because going to the radio doesnt sound nearly as good with the surround sound. I'd get that iMiv setup but the installer said he is not entirely sure he would know how to install it and would charge more for labor.... So yea, I'm kinda stuck. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

Thumbs up

I agree with Bender, You will thank your self later if you go with the iMiV setup. It sounds like you're more interested in a quality sounding setup, then there is no other option IMO.

Sign up on Swedespeed and use this forum to you advantage. iMiv has support staff that will answer any questions on this forum.

If this particular installer is saying he's not sure how to install it, I'd shop elsewhere. It comes with directions and and competent shop will be able to do the install for you.

Good luck! And you have a VERY nice looking R!!!

I haven't been able to get a response yet on the forum. Will the aux only iMiv option have the same sound quality as the more expensive complete iPod solution? But if I go with the Aux only option I would have no control over the music from my steering wheel would I? I would only go with the Aux only option because I'm afraid of what would happen when newer iPods/iPhone come out.. The 30-pin adapter might change thus making the dock inoperable. How many labor hours should it take a qualified installer? Any opinions on the matter?

Haha, you're right. I'll copy and paste my last post from the other forum over to here to gather more opinions/ideas on the matter.

"Hey Tippy. I very much so appreciate your response! It sounds like the iMIV LE is the right one for me, and thanks for the clarification. Is there any interference with an iPhone 3GS as there typically is with cassette adapters, FM modulators etc? The setup I want is basically this...
I will not have an iPod permanently placed in the car. I will only be using my iPhone 3GS. I want to be able to get into my car, plug in my iPhone to the 30-pin dock adapter with a cable coming up from the passenger or driver seat or some other handy location. Play my iPhone's iPod to my destination at the same time charging it. I'm guessing for this frequent plug in/plug out setup the iMiv cannot be left in the trunk? It has to be up closer to my HU-850? I've only had this car for about 3 weeks and I don't wanna trash it. I'm fairly technical, I build my own computers and am kind of the "techie" amongst my friends, am good with that kind of stuff, but I do not feel comfortable taking apart my head unit... With the iMiv installed that will take the place of my 6 CD changer correct? Which is fine...

I've called a couple car audio installers here in the area and they are not familiar with the Volvo HU system. They feel like they could install it but they have no idea how long it would take them to install it. At $85/hr I'm worried of having a wonderful device but not at the cost of $300+ of labor install. I know I'm posting mini-novels but I really do appreciate any information left. I wish the Volvo dealership could install it I trust those guys. Hmm, just gotta find the best one in Reno.

I am a brand new '06 Volvo S60 R owner and I could not be any happier with my purchase! The car is absolutely wonderful and fits me so perfectly well. The car is sleek looking, fast, comfortable and is a blast to drive. Not to mention Volvo's renowned reliability and safety record. I find myself looking forward to leave the house and get back into the driver seat day in and day out. Also the AWD has kicked *** the past couple weeks in the snowy/icy Reno winter weather. The only thing I'm not yet used to is the weight of the car. When it does slide, it slides farrrrrr! I swear, last night I just slammed on the breaks on a snowy stretch and I probably slid like 1/8 of a mile. No joke. Going like 35 mph. Anyways, I'll quit ranting haha. But yea, I could not be happier with my purchase. If only I could get my iPhone going I'll be a very happy volvo camper. The Volvo community (you guys) and the dealership have also been great.

Also you make a valid point about the 30-pin dock adapter. I work for Apple and I know how things change with generations of iPods/iPhones on sounddocks, car chargers etc. Things that were once compatible and no longer are. I think I'll take my chances and go with the iMIV LE though and scrap my Belkin car charger.

Thanks again,

Peter "

Default You didn't define inexpensive.

However, here is one that will work, and work with the components behind the stereo without voiding out warranties.

There are others that can be controlled from the steering wheel controls-volume, songs. It costs twice as much though.

Good luck
