Volvo just said my transmission is fine, but the strut needs to be changed. What are your opinions? I never experienced any issues with it. They can quote a price to fix it later.

 

what are the symptoms that lead you to bring the car in? Struts typically go bad one of two ways - you hear a thumping going over bumps/potholes which typically means the spring seat or strut mount is bad (you didn't mention the year so its hard to say if that's normal), or they leak. turn the wheel full and look for any signs of oil stains on strut. Note when replacing struts you should do in pairs and get an alignment following the work. Its not a complex job so most any shop can do it.

 

I had a message to check the transmission. They did a software upgrade for the transmission that cost $50 or so. My mom bought new struts for $1500 or so. My mom said that she heard that there was a problem, but I never heard it. I hope I do not have to pay for it.
