Default car just lost power and died

2001 s60t. 130k

yesterday I notice a little roughness while idling and driving, a little like misfiring. Car did not have normal acceleration power either.

I changed plugs and it seemed to be better but some of the roughness was still there.

On way to Autozone to have computer read I started to accelerate from a standstill after light turned green, but car would no accelerate. I was able to creep down the road about a quarter mile at which point car lost all power and died. It would restart, but immediately die again. Had to be towed.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Pete

Would help if you posted code that you were going to have AZ read, assuming your CEL was on?

Possible vacuum leak(s) might explain the rough running. The car dying and not wanting to turn over is probably related to something else, maybe battery or alternator issues?

You're gonna really have to get codes read for this one, so many things it can be. Check your battery terminals as well, always a good recommendation.

could be several things ranging from a voltage issue to a fuel pressure / metering problem. If there are no stored codes (ie indicating a MAF or similar component issue) and the engine cranks at normal speed then I'd suspect fuel pressure. You can check/replace the fuel pump relay then check out the fuel pressure at the rail and test the pump's current draw. If all is good then it may be the fuel pressure regulator.

Check your coils. I've been through pretty much the same thing. Coil #3 went bad on me. When I got the new coil, I went through and measured everything with a DMM (non-Volvo, but they must initially meet spec). You can find that information down in the thread here (2nd post up from bottom). Make note that the left pin # is for the black lead:

It's a quick and dirty test. IPD (temporarily) no longer makes the HD coils, to which I would have certainly bought 5 of... but they're looking for a new manufacturer and are unavailable currently.
