OK on the side bottom of the console is a long panel. There is a plastic clip that you turn then slide the panel back to remove.
Then remove the little panel in front of the shifter where the pen holder is. It will just pop out.
There is 2 t-25 screws under the one cover.
Then open and remove all items in the console under the arm rest lid. Then the bottom cover will pop out. There is 2 more t-25 screws under there as well.
Then pull up the e-brake handle. Then pull up on the panel holding the boot for the e-brake and slide it off the handle.
On some of the cars there is also a t-25 screw holding a plactic piece under the shifter indicator. If so remove the screw and slide the black panel back to remove.

Then the console should lift up some. Then you will have to go into the back seat and try to undo the plug for the rear cigar lighter and unhook the plug from the console. (PITA)

Then it should lift up and out.

Thanks for your time tech, but it looks like I will have to hire someone to do this. I have had 2 cervical surgeries. It is therefore impossible for me turn my neck to get down to do it. Maybe I could find someone in this forum that is near Mooresville NC. Anyway thanks for the reply and your knowledge I know I appreciate it as well as many others here.

Thumbs up Changing center console lights around heater controls

This is rather easy.

-Make sure you unhook the battery first. If you don't and you unplug the back of the heater controls you'll get an Error Message in the Message window in the dash for service of the airbags. This cost me $50 at the dealer to reset it.
-After unhooking the battery, all you have to do is pop out the pen holder to expose two hex head screws.
-Remove these screws and the heater control module will come out by pulling the bottom out first.
-Then unplug the two connectors that are plugged in the back of the module.
-You'll see on the back where the lights are located, they are in sockets that you'll have to turn out about a quarter turn to remove them. Go to the link: http://www.eeuroparts.com/Main/PartDetail.aspx?id=30739358 to find out what the light bulb looks like.
-I took that part number 30739358 and went to the Volvo Dealer where it was cheaper and bought it there.
-Then reverse the order and put it back together and you are done.

I put together this video to show people how to pull the center console of the Volvo 850. I pulled mine to get to the bulb at my shifter.
