Default Clunking Like Crazy...

Hi Guys, new to this forum. Just purchased an 02 S60 base and it clunks like hell over every pot hole. I just checked every mount with a breaker bar. The one on the top of the engine is split but hard to duplicate with a breaker bar. Can this mount really cause clunking? Thank you for the help, John in NH

Change the mount. Probably not the cause of the clunking though.

I would replace the say bar end links.

Take a look at your stabilizer links, both in the front and the back. They wear out around 65k to 75k. I purchased MOOG replacements. They are cheaper than IPD or Volvo and have grease zerks so you can keep greasing them to prolong the life of the parts. 120 bucks and about an hour of grunt work and your clunks will most likely be gone.

I am having this same problem with a clunking noise coming from my passenger side wheel on uneven roads. When I tugged on the wheel is moves slightly side to side. It does not do this with any other wheel. Would this be the same problem?

Check the link from the stabilzier bar to the strut. If it's bad it'll feel really loose and the rubber boots that contain the grease may also be worn or torn.

Check the spring seat, they tend to be problematic in S60's.

I have three volvos and can definitely recommend you replace your spring seats. If your lower control arm bushings are shot and your struts are on last leg the spring seats will pop again after a short while. You will find plenty of help on this site if you do your own repairs. The springs seats can cost $25 to $50 each.

Thanks for the suggestions fellas, I appreciate it. There are a few things that need to be repaired on my S60 so I might be popping in here every now and then. Hopefully I could learn a thing or two. I know how helpful forums could be.. I usually spend my time at the Armada forum.
