codes P240A, 2419 and 2401
hi everyone - 1st timer.....i have a 2013 s60 T6 r design - indigo......car ran great up to 95K - now i had 1 ignition coil burn out - later another one - decided to replace all coils and new plugs, but then was getting codes for misfire in cyl 3 and 5 - when I unplug them while running, i noticed cyl 3 didn't make a change....the other ones made engine sputter a bit.....so I put the old/original ignition coil in #3 and it ran smooth with no codes - then the above codes appeared - just following all this with the ignition coil - odd...... not much on the codes above - but what i did find was /is the "EVAP Leak Detection Pump" - should I just replace that? What happens now is that under hard acceleration, it has all the power, but it spits/spatters a bit..... could the EVAP pump be causing this? Or do i just have a vacuum leak which is causing those codes? It feels like a vacuum leak.. Any thoughts? Also if you recommend replacing the EVAP pump - is it a PITA? I have all wheel. I need to do this today as I'm leaving for VT (from Glastonbury CT) tomorrow......or should I call some shops around to see who can do it? thanks, Jeff
The way the evap system is set up (at least on the older cars) is there's a vaccuum line that goes to the purge valve, which then opens to pull the gasoline vapors out of the tank to reduce emissions. So yes, you can have a vaccuum leak or a faulty purge valve that will set off the CEL and possibly make for a bumpy idle. I wouldn't just assume its a bad evap pump - you may need a smoke test to find the vaccuum leak considering the lines go from the engine through the purge valve all the way back to the charcoal cannister. My S40 had a small evap leak CEL and the smoke test found a tear in the line midway back under the car.
