Coolant fluid keeps going low at least twice a month.
My 2001 S60 had it's coolant changed about 6 months ago. I don't see any leaks anywhere, but about twice a month I get the error message "Stop Engine Check Coolant". When I check the reservoir, it is slightly below the "Low" mark. I add the correct amount of fluid & the problem goes away for a few weeks. Can it be that there are air pokets in the radiator after all this time or is it leaking into the engine somehow? Is there a way to see if it is going into the engine or what else could be the problem? All advise is appreciated.
I had a similar issue with my C70 (except I would see a cup or two of coolant in the passenger side front corner of the car). I replaced the hoses, thermostat, water pump, coolant cap and eventually the radiator. After all that I discovered that my over-flow bottle had a hairline crack in the bottom of it that would weep coolant under the right conditions. When it leaked it ran down a ridge in the car making it look like it was leaking from the radiator area. Take a look at that (cheap part to replace).
Remove the front splash guard. This is in the very front of the cars. Im going to bet that you will see some old Anti freeze there. The radiator is going to fail at some point it just how long it will last before the seams let go.It drips and over time 15-30 days i loose about a cup of fluid. The other thing is it may be mixing with the trany fluid. This is been know to happen but if the car is shifting ok then i would start by looking in the splash gaurd passenger side first. GL and here is a link on replacing the Rad if you so choose to. Its a $800-$1000 job at dealer
