Default Did I just buy a lemon?? Please tell me no.

I am just sick and wondering if I brought a lemon. Just bought a 2001 S60 for my son thinking I was buying something wonderful, but this weekend has made me rethink. The tail lights/brake lights went out, so we relplaced them...they blew immediately. Took it to a shop who replaced and said maybe a "relay" was bad and needed replacing. Left the shop with ALL lights working, but my son just came home and said the head lights are now out. Brights work..but headlights BOTH OUT! help...I sunk all my $$ into buying this car for him. plus...we need to replace all the belts soon according to the mechanic. the car has 114000...is it time for the belts to be replaced? If any one could help with the crazy light issue, I would appreciate it. I am sick to death inside thinking I just brought a piece of crap.

I replied in your other post. I think it's coincidence that happened. Have you checked the bulbs. S60s are great reliable cars. The one you have to be aware of is the S80. I would also ceck the relay to the front. Remember you didn't buy a new car. It is a 2001 and stupid stuff might go out here and there. Overall they are exellent cars. as stated by member "bender", do u know service history???

Headlamps blow all the time on these cars. You may also find a bad headlight connector causing high resistance and aggravating the problems with the headlights.

Thanks to ALL for the replies. We have a car fax report...which is clean. No other real service history....poo. I think I just freaked out cause the lights went out at near the same time. We've replaced the head lamps, and all appears to be good now. Next on the to-do list...timing belt, etc.

Yes - get that timing belt and water pump done ASAP!

lights do go out frequently.

I think I would flip out more on the T-belt than the lights! Make sure you do that SOON! Especially without service records, you don't know when that sucker could go!

I have a 2001 S60.... I bought it used in 2007 with 96,000 miles on it & it now has 102,000 miles on it.... When I bought it I made sure to change all the belts & hoses (especially the timing belt).... I just did a drain & fill on the transmission fluid (Mobil ATF 3309)... The car is great..... As for the lights, I usually change the bulbs once a year as they burn out, but this is a minor problem. Just keep up with regular maintenance & it will last you for a long time... good luck!
