Default DIY Turbo Removal

Is there a thread somewhere on this forum with step-by-step instructions for removing the turbo from a 2002 S60 T5 AWD?

It is not that bad. You are going to have to remove the exhaust manifold heat shield to see everything and also remove the intake air duct at both ends. There are a lot of vacuum hoses and fittings there so take a few pictures.

Be careful with unbolting the catalytic converter pipe from the turbo housing. I like to spray PB Blaster on the three nuts and give them a few treatments about an hour before trying to crack them loose. When you do finally loosen the bolts, use a good socket and give it a quick torque to break them loose. Cheap or loose fitting sockets will round them off and then you're stuck.
