My drivers door doesn't close as smoothly as all other doors and I started to investigate the issue. On the drivers door there are two pink dots, one above the latch and one below the latch. I don't think these are OEM marks but I think they are marks that show someone attempted an adjustment.
have you looked at how the door aligns before the latch hits the door pin? its possible that the door itself is misaligned and resting on the striker pin which is lifting the door into alignment. I'd start by looking at the door's alignment not the latch.
If it is resting on the striker it hasn't been doing it long because in my experience a door incorrectly aligned will carve off some of the striker. This striker shows no signs of wear.
I thought maybe the hinge is fatigued but lifting it up doesn't show any movement. Plus the car only has 20,000 miles on it and it would be odd to have a worn out hinge.
To me it seems that the striker is not misaligned up or down but sideways. Probably too far toward the outside. I could release the striker just a bit and close the door but in my history, aligning doors can go badly real fast and become a PITA.
I do want to address this situation before it does start to wear away something. I hope it hasn't been this tight for too long because that would mean a correct alignment would not be hitting the door seals very well and that would mean air noise.
Looking at the door from the outside when it is closed doesn't give any indication of a problem, everything is well aligned. Hm????
