Driver information center shows speed?
Hello, I'm a new owner of a 2004 Volvo S60 2.5T. It's my first Volvo and I'm thrilled with it.
I've been reading many messages at a few different forums even before deciding to buy the car. I thought I read a way to have the current speed or instantaneous speed show up in the driver information center.
Of course, I can't find anything about that now.
Is that possible? If yes, how?
Thanks,
Steve

On Canadian S60's, the Trip Computer has an extra feature that is not on US cars. In addition to Kilometers to Empty, Average KMH, Average Fuel Economy (L/100KM), and Current Fuel Economy (Litres/100KM), it can also report current speed in MPH. This is necessary as the speedometers on the Canadian cars have a metric scale only. According to the owner's manual, this last function is not on American cars... though I don't know if that's because your speedometer is dual scale? or you just don't need to know KMH (don't you ever drive to Canada?)

Is this a standard feature or is it optional I have not seen it on my 02 maybe a later thing huh........Jerry
All Trip Computers on Canadian S60's have this feature. The Trip Computer itself has been standard on Canadian T5's and R's since their introduction, and is now also standard on the 2.5T and AWD versions. I believe it was an option on earlier 2.4T's, and possibly base models too.
Good to hear I wasn't imagining the current speed could be there. My 2004 has the speedometer in MPH & KMH, the same as virtually every modern U.S. car.
I imagine the trip computer is the same one in every recent Volvo and is controlled via software.
Possibly displaying the current speed is simply an option that the dealer could turn using VADIS, if there isn't some secret or hidden way to program it ourselves.
I suppose in the worst case the Canadian cars have different software loaded on the trip computer.
I asked the service adviser at my local dealer over the phone today. He said he thinks they tried it but weren't able to program that option. I'll talk to them more about it in person next week.
Thanks,
Steve
