Engine Surging While Idling
I was at a stop waiting for traffic to slowly pass in front before I could turn into the road. All of the motor did an increasing rev as if I had floored the accelerator pedal. All I could do was push on the brake as hard as possible and Put car into Park and cut off the engine., This is time when i started the engine, it continued with the high RPM motor rev. Turned it back off and was considering calling a wrecker. Since I was quite a distance from home. I tried it one more time and it started normally and had no more issues, The dealership had an examination of the issue last year after it had done this several times. They basically said the only way they could find the cause would be for it to happen while they had it in the shop. Has anyone else experienced this? (S60 T5 Premiere.
what year is your car? Starting in 2000 or so, Volvos went to an electronic throttle mechanism (aka drive by wire). There's a position sensor in the accelerator pedal and then there's the ETM (the throttle body). Since the problem went away when you stopped and restarted, I'd also look for other things like a relay involved.
For something that new, I'd bring it to the dealer for a full VIDA scan and see if there's any available or required software updates. My guess its either software, wiring/relay, the pedal sensor or the throttle body. The pedal sensor runs $150-200, throttle body $500-600...
