Default Fuel Rail drains overnight

Fuel odor inside car after sitting overnight. Requires 2 start attempts next morning -- I guess to pressurized fuel rail. Car had a couple cases of engine flattening on heavy acceleration, but generally runs normal. No codes, but perhaps due computer module was changed by previous owner not sure it was ever properly reprogrammed.
I took a guess, due to age 2001 T5, milage, about 245,000 miles, that injectors maybe leaking. Changed all injectors but noted the fuel rail was nearly empty (No Fuel). Runs OK, but still fuel rail drains out overnight. No pressure regulator on the fuel rail, so it must be in tank.

Why would fuel rail be draining out overnight and odor inside car??

thanks in advance

could be injectors or could be the fuel pressure regulator. I'd guess your regulator is hiding under the intake manifold if its not on the rail. Do you get a puff of smoke at start up to suggest fuel is leaking into the cylinder?

No detectable smoke on startup, all injectors have been changed. From what I have read the fuel regulator is either on the rail or in the fuel pump located in fuel tank. Guess what i need to figure out is the regulator integral part of fuel pump or a separate module that can be replaced -- other words do I need to change fuel pump to replace a defective regulator..

Hopefully this assessment in not premature, but believe issue is resolved. Being an older vehicle, the fuel pump recall (220) probably does not surface too often but seems so in this case. Fuel finally started running out under car thus source was quickly identified and appointment with Volvo dealer being coordinated.
