Hello! Like to introduce myself on the S60 sub-forum
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a longtime fan of Volvo cars and currently have three in the family stable. I live in the Athens, Ga area and married to a beautiful wife and two children. I'm an avid DIY'er and love repairing my own stuff. If I've learned anything over the years is to know your limits when repairing these cars and never be embarrassed to ask for help.
This is why I'd like to be a part of this forum. I enjoy learning and enjoy a laugh along the way.
Thank you all!
Bobby

Hello Bobby,
I'm a longtime Saab owner but alas they are getting harder to keep alive. Looking at the 2016 Volvo S60 T5 Premier and noticed you had one - do these cars have a good track record? Would you recommend this car?
Thanks
Harry

The Volvos:
1960 122s (Ruddspeed)
1976 265
2003 V70
2008 V70
2015.5 V60
The last one will be close to the 2016 S60 mechanically. Overall, the V60 is the best of all the Volvos I've owned and at least tied for first if not the best "family" car I've driven (closest competitor - '94 MB E320 wagon - when it was good, it was really good but also had significant failings - electrical)
The big Healey and XK 120 must, of course, be evaluated separately.

Aaahhh... How I miss my SAAB 9-3 convertible. I wish I hadn't parted with it, but seemed like the right thing to do since my wife was ready for a newer vehicle. Lots of great memories with our kids in that car. Overall, our Volvos have been problem-free aside from normal items (i.e. brakes, batteries, etc.). I've owned my 2012 since for 7 years and nothing major has gone wrong with it. ((knock on wood)) The only thing I've changed on it recently was the PCV unit. Other than that, just normal stuff. From every article I've read, the second generation S60 (pre-Geely) was a very reliable, well built car. Most of the people would say move up to the 6 cylinder engine, but the T5 is pretty solid IMHO. Of course, the T5 has the timing belt that will need to be changed out, but that shouldn't scare you away cause even timing chains can break.
The premiere line of S60 are very nice inside with top leather upholstery and a nice mix of metal and wood accents. I've always appreciated Volvo's form/function philosophy. The "infotainment" is very nice design for this time period. Lot of work went into assuring minimal steps for simple functions unlike the menu heavy systems in the most modern cars. I'm ol' school when it comes to techie things in cars. I don't like a lot of distractions. I enjoy driving and don't like fighting with these computer control systems. Anyway, you can't go wrong with the S60. Just make sure you get one that's been checked out. A pre-purchase inspection is smart if you purchase from an individual or independent dealer, especially if no warranty is included.
Cheers!
Bobby
