on a run down the motorway
EML with
no oil pressure stop to avoid damage but the hard shoulder was off for works

by the time i could stop the engine had stopped running making loud rattling noise so after a tow off the motorway

i need help what should i suspect first to check in order

the culprit is gunk in the pan like most of these but something in the engine is rattling loud is it worth me fixing

 

You likely wrecked the engine

 

how to be sure though

 

Check oil level.
Check to see if the engine will still crank/rotate.
Also maybe pull the oil filter to check for shiny metal bits.
If oil level is OK consider checking the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge attached to the engine if the engine will start.

Every chance though with the engine making bad noises and not starting you need a replacement engine.
