How do I know if I have an Alarm system or not on my 2002 s60?
Hi,
I have Volvo s60 2002 and I have no idea if it has an alarm system or not. The dealer said it has Anti theft Lock and I'm still confused what that is. Anyway, I looked for a red flashing led on the dashboard and no sight of it. I also locked the car and left the driver's windows hafl opened then tried to open it as a thief would do but nothing happened.
I also wounder if I don't have an alarm then what in God's name is this button for?

When I tested the Alarm I think it was off.
I also have another weird button next to it that has four capital letters and I have no clue what it does and it was off too as I remember.
I just want to know if the Alarm is standard or not and if not then what is this Anti theft lock? is it only for making sure that the doors cannot be opened from inside while locked with key (when I left the window open, I tried to open the car from inside and I couldn't).
Thanx for your help and I would really appreciate your help.

Pulled from the owners' manual: referring to button pictured
Alarm The alarm is automatically armed whenever you lock your car.
When armed, the alarm continuously monitors a number of points on the car. The following conditions will set off the alarm: [*]The hood is forced open.[*]The trunk is forced open.[*]A door is forced open.[*]The ignition switch is tampered with.[*]If there is movement in the passenger compartment (if the car is equipped with the optional movement sensor).[*]The car is lifted or towed (if the car is equipped with the optional inclination sensor).[*]The battery is disconnected (while the alarm is armed).[*]The siren is disconnected when the alarm is disarmed.
Temporarily turning off the alarm sensor( s) - option
This button will only be found in cars equipped with the optional inclination and/or movement sensors.
In certain situations it may be desirable to turn off the optional inclination and movement alarm sensors if, for example, you drive your car onto a ferry where the rocking of the boat could trigger the alarm or if a pet is left in the car with the doors locked.
To temporarily turn off the inclination and movement alarm sensors from the alarm system:B From the time the ignition key is turned from the Drive position (position II) until you lock the car, you can press the button in the center console*. The LED in the switch will light up and a message will be displayed in the text window to indicate that the sensors are disconnected.
The car can then be locked in the usual way to set the alarm.
NOTE: The optional sensors are automatically reconnected to the alarm system the next time the car is unlocked and then locked again.
The DSTC stands for Dynamic Stability Traction Control.
Looks like your car does have the alarm, you just need to activate it. With the key in the ignition press the button. Then lock up and try to open the door. Should work.

01_fast_ride, again you empress me. Thank you very much.
I locked the car with the remote control (pressed the Lock button) and not with the normal key. What's a key ***? Sorry, English isn't my native language.
About the weird button, yes, I remember now that it was labeled DSTC and still don't get what it does.
Now, if I have the movement alarm sensor which is optional as I understood, shouldn't I have an Alarm at the first place?
Thanx

Sorry, if I confused you. Key **** would be the lock pin that is down for locked and up for unlocked. Key fob is the keyless remote.
Yes it is strange that you would have doubts about the alarm. My model is the 2001; it has a panic button on the remote as well as an obvious LED on the dash. I just checked the 2002 Specifications http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/.../2002_S60.htmland it shows that the security system is standard equipment on all trim levels. Since you are still having questions regarding this, I would definitely suggest stopping by the dealership to ask a sales associate to go over this feature with you. Might get better results than calling.

Ok, it's time for the regular service any way. I'll ask them there about my questions but I'm almost certain that it doesn't have one.
Thanks 01_fast_ride and I'll keep you updated.
