Install roof cross bars on my Volvo 2002 s60?

The bars are about 175, labor puts them at 300 [:-]

Can we just snap them in?

 

Are there after market cross bars we can use that would be just as good?

 

I'm going to answer my own question here....

Again, in anticipation of the second child, in an effort to stave off purchasing anything remotely close to an SUV, and in trying fervently to avoid having to endure 5 years of car payments (again) we decided to go with luggage/roof racks.

The racks cost us $175 at our local Volvo dealer and we were quoted about $125 for installation.

After speaking with the parts guy, and some service people, hubby decides that maybe he can actually install these himself. I'm all supportive figuring that, if we cant install them, we will just take everything back to the dealer and have them do it - but why not try...?

Those roof racks took all of 5 minutes to install on the car!!!!!

I'm simply amazed at how Volvo could get away with charging $125 for installation. By my estimates, they are charging for 1.5 hours of labor on something that takes 5 minutes!!!

 

The Dealers are good like that!! It really hurts the pockets of the average JOE out there.
