How much should it cost to replace the Oil Trap?
Hi,
My mechanic told me that I need my oil trap replaced in my S60. I have 105,000 miles on it.
He quoted me $500 (parts, labor) to replace it. does this sounds about right?
thanks!

Just how important is it to replace the oil trap anyways? The mechanic says it is clogged up/has buildup
Also what is the "pcv system"? Is that all the hosing?
It pretty important. And yes the PCV system is the oil trap and all the hoses that go to it. If it gets clogged up, the built up crankcase pressure that would normally be relieved through the PCV (Positive crankcase ventilation), will push oil past the seals and you'll have a whole host of other issues to deal with that will cost you even more money.
We replaced the oil trap in our 2015 S80 with approximately 98k miles at Volvo dealer in northern NJ. Total cost was $607, parts $307, labor $283, environmental fee (it's NJ) $35, and taxes $37.
Recently bought a volvo s40 well maintained all records show. Drove first week got code fuel pressure sensor ,replaced car went back into limp mode. Changed again after maf sensor popped up changed that drove few days limp mode again. Put in shop diagnosed throttle body ,that was fixed new tb. Limp mode again one day later. Back in different shop now said oil seprator is the issue 1k for diagnose and repair ? Is this a common issue ,hesitant to trust shop after I just was told it was throttle body and drove it for a day and was back to limp mode. Actually worse it would start then die down slowly all the way. Is a bad seperator causing the car to die and go into limp mode the whole time and throwing all these codes for sensors. Check engine light wouldn't come on after the sensors were replaced. Thanks
How was your oil trap change? may I know if your throttle body was cleaned as well?
