Default Instrument Panel

Hey guys and fellow Volvo owners. I have an '02 S60 and my instrument panel went dark. A friend/mechanic told me I need a new instrument panel so I baught one. I then noticed after installing it and the new one was still dark and not working that the problem is something else... Any ideas?

Always check the fuses first when something goes dark like that.

I am having a similar issue myself with my 02' s60. I am assuming by instrument panel you mean the console cluster with the Gas Gauge, RPM, MPH, clock etc. Mine keeps acting erratic sometime it will come on sometimes I start it is goes dark then comes on later.

I was looking for replacement parts on eBay. Apparently, if you buy a new Console Cluster or a used one it will not work. The used ones I guess they have to Clone the info off your old one so the mileage and everything matches up.

New ones like you have are suppose to be programed by a dealer or Volvo mechanic according to what I saw. Not sure if that was done.

Make sure that used DIM is from the car with same model year.
Plus I would look for some form the car with the same engine.
If model year is different you likely need to reprogram it at the dealer.

Thank you...
I noticed the back side of the cluster looks a little different which would tell me its a year...

Sorry to reply to an old post. But if you buy a used cluster. I had mine repaired. I was told that they have to "clone" the old one and update the newer one. Maybe someone else can fill me in. But here in California I send mine to a guy in Tennesee who did a great job for about $200 rather than $1200 at a dealer for my older car. I was quite worried about it getting lost or not showing up for some reason.

Everything I heard was if you take a cluster out of a salvage car or buy a used one and plug it in. It will not work because the mileage and everything has to be "cloned" onto the new cluster.

Hope this helps someone in the future.
