Default Ipod Adapter

I have a 2006 S60 with the HU-650 sound system. I took my volvo to get the brake vacuum pump changed and I asked the supervisor how much it would cost to get an iPod adapter to be installed, he called me back saying my stereo didn't have the port for them to add the adapter to the back of the stereo. Is this true or did they not even check? Please help. If anyone has any idea of the best way to add an ipod adapter instead of an FM transmitter, please tell me.

Thanks.

Questions...

- With navigation system?

- Without navigation system, with in dash CD changer?

- Without navigation system, without in dash CD changer?

If you have the Nav system this should work, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_581PA11...ce.html?tp=120

If your without and with an in dash CD changer this should work, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_581PA11...ce.html?tp=120

If your without both this should work, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_581PA11...ce.html?tp=120

Which they all look alike and probably are, seeing as how the links are all the same. Many places sell this kit.

I have neither navigation or cd changer. But the guy at volvo said my stereo system doesn't have the port it needs to connect to. Does it?

You do have the port. The adapter from IPD uses the CD changer input on the back of the unit. It makes the IPod emulate the CD changer, and even displays the iPod text on the LCD. I got the one at IPD, but I couldn't get it to work without ground noise. It also drained my iPod power like crazy, IPD had no solution and would not refund my money.

There are several options at Crutchfield, including an FM transmitter that connects inline with the FM antenna. This one probably works best.

I plan to run new wires to the speakers from an aftermarket amplifier and connect my IPod directly to the amplifier RCA inputs.

Sorry but FM Transmitters are a horrible suggestion. While they are the easiest to install and use... They offer the worst possible audio. You have to find a station that doesn't come in clearly to start with and then you have issues with other radio stations bleeding over onto the one your tuned into. Also you have to place the iPod just so, because you will get static.

Also IPD is a good company to deal with and I am very surprised they wouldn't refund your money. Did you talk to a rep from IPD or did you talk to the head man there?

I do see on their site that they don't refund for installed electrical devices, but I am sure if you complained enough they would have.
