Just Picked up my 1st Volvo!
Hey guys, first time volvo owner here. I picked up a 2002 S60 2.4 non turbo. It is in good condition but it does have 102k miles. They were not aware if the timing belt had been done so I am taking it in in the next week or so to have it done. I love this car though. I'm sure I'll be posting here in the future.

Took it in for an inspection today. It needs the following:
1.Timing Belt - Water Pump - Tensioner - Drive Belt - $821
2. Fuel Filter - $137
3. Front Sway Bar Links - $265
4. License Plate Light - $16
5. Upper Torque Mount - $233
I think I can do everything except for the Timing Belt. That torque Mount looks like a bolt on and bolt off type deal. Anyone have any tips for it, the fuel filter, and the sway bar links? Any reason I shouldn't do these on my own? I found the parts online. Sway Bar Links $25, Torque Mount $55.
Thanks

Hey!
Welcome to the club. You have now been assimilated! I think you'll like it, too.
I haven't changed a fuel filter on an S60, but it isn't rocket surgery. I'd recommend that you go for a genuine Volvo torque mount. I went with one of the aftermarket hard plastic types and it transmits vibration in a very un-Volvolike manner. There is a little trick of orienting the mount, but a search online should find you some photos. That little job is worth about 1/2 hour of your time. The sway bar links are easy, too. You'll save a whack of money and learn some things about the car. Invest in a few simple tools and you'll find the savings will be huge. Shop around for someone to do the belt, too. Make sure that they know what they are doing and you'll have found someone for the things you choose not to do.
I've got an '02, S60 T5. I was burning around in it all day. I think I've had about 9 or 10 Volvos. I could have had pretty much any car, but I've tried a few others and truly, there are very few vehicles that offer the spirit, reliability and just plain fun of a Volvo. Look at it this way... You've just bought a car that compares directly with Mercedes, BMW, Audi and it cost you a lot less! Value-wise, you done great! These cars don't stand out in traffic life a few others, but that is a large part of the mystique. Those who really appreciate the cars, know.

Well I had a pretty productive day today. I got the Upper Torque Mount in the engine replaced along with the fuel filter and the license plate bulbs.
I have on order a set of Tom's HD sway bar links. Anyone ever use them. I found them on volvospeed forums. They seem to have a good reputation and look to be built good. Those will go on as soon as I get them.

Congrats on the S60!! Looks very clean. The location and placement of the fuel filter is definitely a well thought out maintenance item. I've only had mine about a month, but enjoying it more every day!
Unfortuneately, my wife hid my charge card until I get the other 1/2 of the boxes of stuff in our garage put on the car.
