Default Left front drive axel

Hi all,

My 2007 S60 is making an intermittent "ticking" noise when I'm at speed (30-50mph) and it's most pronounced when I'm taking a tight curve to the left. The mechanic says it's the "left front drive axle -- he removed the tire and bearings were broken and that it could fall apart at any moment." Says $509 for the part (which seems aligned with Tasca) and $190 for the labor.

Thoughts?

The price for the labor is okay, but he's trying to bend you over on the cost of the part. Multiple sources (rockauto, swedishautoparts, fcpeuro) all have aftermarket for under $100 and fcp (or a local dealer) has a genuine volvo part for $189.
