Default Is my car possessed?

My 2013 Volvo S60 T5 is currently having sporadic issues where I’ll be driving and all of a sudden will enter limp mode and a few trouble codes will appear on the screen. “DSTC Service Required” and “Transmission Service Required” bring two of the most popular. Besides that, “Coolant System Service Required”, “Parking Brake Service Required”, “Brake Failure Stop Safely”, “SRS Airbag Service Required” also seldom appear as well. On top of all that, my speedometer will what I’m calling “wave at me,” where it’ll show my current speed, drop to 0, then instantly show my speed, then drop back to 0. My RPM gauge will drop to 0. And my outside temperature will read --°F. I have no idea as to what is happening. I have googled my issue and all that comes up is this same exact issue with a 2004 Volvo S60. Absolutely nothing about a ‘13. If anybody would be so kind to help me understand what is going on or tell me what I could do to alleviate this issue, I would be extremely grateful.

Steve

sounds like you have a wiring/voltage issue on a common circuit/relay or ground point related to those sensors and the DIM. Curious what you found for the 2004...

I experienced something similar when the battery was weak. The battery was only 1.5 years old so I had it replaced under warranty and all of the dash display gremlins went away... except for one: "city safety service required" which I have been unable to clear myself. It can be temporarily eliminated through the stalk but comes back the next time the vehicle is started. No longer have a Volvo dealership anywhere near me so not sure how and when I will address that.

Glad to see I’m not the only one with this problem. Did you ever initially have the city safety service required? Because I haven’t had that pop up yet.

No, I had never seen that particular message until the new battery was put in. In addition to the multitude of odd msgs one of the xenon headlamps was also out. I had a local service person I trust pull the bulb and the replacement did not work. Since he diagnosed the bad battery he thought it wise to first get that battery replaced and then diagnose the headlamp issue. Once the new battery went in, the headlamp started working normally. Go figure.

Just wanted to update that I was able to get my local garage (works on a lot of Volvos) to restore my front collision radar function again. The "City Safety Service required" message wasn't simply informational as the actual radar for pedestrian detection stopped functioning. His vida tool detected many nonsensical codes from the low/dead battery condition. He said that he had the car kickstart/relearn the radar component. No further nag messages in the dashboard.

I am having the exact same thing happening on my 2012 xc60! My Volvo guy has no idea what is going on. All I can find online is about an ‘04, like you said. I happened to stumble across your post and was hoping you might have figured out the problem?
