My nephew's 2006 S60 with 2.4L i5 makes a nasty rattle sound at startup. It's worse when cold and used to go away after warmup. Now it does get better after warmup but never completely disappears.

I made a video with the sound and wondered if there's a common source for this kind of issue. Catalyst? Heat shield?

Are you able to get under there(ramps) and have someone you trust start it.....I hope it's just heatshield!

 

Video sound quality is poor. Hard to tell.

That's a clue. Cracked or loose exhaust manifold?

Could also be an internal engine problem. I dunno. You'll be lucky if it's as simple as a vibrating heat shield.
