Im hoping someone can help w/advice, trying to decide b/w:

-06 S60 2.5T w/55k, asking price is $11,900

or

-06 S60 R w/91k, asking price is $11,900

Any advice on which is the better buy, and what I should offer is much appreciated.

maintenance is the #1 thing Get the VIN is this is not from a Volvo dealer and check that the maintenance was done and on time.. The difference between the 2 car is Huge The 06 2.5t is a great car for daily driving but as far as power and sportiness it just not all there . The R even at that mileage as long as it was well taken care of are a great deal of fun to drive and are just not in the same class as a standard S60..
The R at 91k make sure that you check the angel gear for weeping or any signs of fluid loss at the seals. also the Angel gear sleeve. It runs from the Tranys to the angel gear. The tends to strip over time and will cause the loss of AWD. Like all Used car and Volvos are no different Maintenance,Maintenance,Maintenance

Thanks for all the feedback, the R ended up having a sketchy past, still waiting to hear back from the 2.5T...

Anyone have thoughts on the S40? Looking at a '08 S40, 2.4i w/40k asking $12.5...

the R was more likely driven fast and hard
that 90k miles might be more like 190k miles

i like the s60's, the s80's are great and even in some ways nicer but then s40's are the cheaper models

they are all pretty much the same engine + or - a few things

so its all about the history of the car get a carfax then get another history report from a different company just to cover your bases, its a small cost to know what a car really is

If the R is a no go i would look for a T5 or even S40R The reason i say that is the potential of these car are there but to unleash it comes at a very high price. Starting with a car that has 250+hp makes the standard S60 2.5T AT 208HP seem lacking. This is just form my experience. I have a 03 S60 AWD and when i bought it many friends told be to keep looking for a T5 or R i didn't listen and now i spent an added $2000 to get my car to a stock T5.

Thanks everyone -- still looking, latest candidate is an '04 S60R w/90k for $11.9 -- carfax and autocheck look clean and show it was serviced regularly.

However it showed up that the battery and radio were replaced at 15k...sign of other problems?

Does anyone know if its possible to get an extended warranty through Volvo still?
