Default need help plz w/ '03' s60 & radar

I own a 2003 S60 2.5t AWD, and was wondering how to open the above map light fixture
in order to hard wire a cobra radar detector. Also wich wires would i use to power the detector.

I would tap directly into the fuse panel, but that's me. The overhead lights are a part of the upper electronics module which controls several functions.

Anyway, I looked at a wiring diagram and Red is +12V (constant). Brown is ground. I could not find a safe switched power source.

I don't know the procedure for opening the fixture. It might have been covered before, try searching threads containing "sunroof".

Default Wireing a Qi45 concelled Radar Dector

I have a 2007 S60 and want to install an escort Qi45 Radar detector but it requires penetrating the firewall to mount the control unit and conect to the fuse panel. Where would I penetrate the firewall to accomplish this.
Thanks,
Michael

why not follow the wiring harness that goes into the car and use the same hole??? you should have room enough for a single wire to fit....I would not put another hole into the firewall....(just one man's opinion) just follow your wires that already go through your firewall i think that will be your best bet...good luck!!

Thanks. It certainly makes sence. You lift the hood and all I see is engine... Not much room for anything

While you can usually find a way to fish a wire through an existing hole in the firewall, I've found that it's usually easier to simply make a new one. The main wire harness likely has a bulkhead connector at the firewall making it impossible to pass a wire through with the rest of the harness. Usually though, you will be able to find some other (either unused or not filled up) grommets in the firewall that you can get your wire through. If you do try to fish your wire through the same hole that is being used by a factory harness, be VERY careful not to damage the existing wiring.
