New engine for my 03 s60

Exclamation New engine for my 03 s60
My current engine model is B5244S vin 64 and i was wondering if the vin matters when buying a different engine? I only seem to find B5244S vin 61.

The only thing I noticed while looking was the vin 64 was California emissions legal while vin 61 was not. I think it would matter only if the vehicle was registered in Cali. But I am no expert.
