Default New pads, pedal fades

Hi
Our 2004 S60 started making a light scraping noise occasionally going around corners, coming from front left.
Dealer advised new pads and rotors even though pads were only 1/2 worn (still 6.6mm left) and there's no grooving or
pulsation from the rotors.

The dealer wants $500 for pads and rotors, so I said no, thanks.

At home I put on new pads (highest price Autozone semi-metallics), and knocked some rust off the outside edge of the rotors.

The noise is gone, but now I have two problems:

1. Now the pedal fades all the way to the floor when stopping. I can pump it a few times and stop normally, but then when holding it steady it continues to fade to the floor. (I saw another post on this forum that advised activating the ABS system a few times, so I did that, but it's still the same.)

2. The brakes were nice and "grabby" before, almost too sensitive, but it gave a sense of security. Now it feels like the brakes are not stopping the car very well.

Any help is appreciated before I have to go back to the dealer.

Steve

Another thing to add to above post - when I'm stepping on the brake pedal and it's sinking, I hear a noise like air pressure being released from the pedal area.

Thanks again for any help.

Looks like you need to bleed the brake system.

You must have gotten some air in the lines.

Did you loosen any of the brake lines?

These cars are very picky about Brake pads.
Aftermarket pads do really work good on Volvo's.

You might want to try a set of OEM pads.

If you have already activated the ABS then I would look at the pads.
