New timing belt, p0014, and solution
I thought I'd pass this along to document what I found in case anyone else runs into it.
I just bought a used '01 S60 and asked that as part of the deal a new timing belt / idler / tensioner be put on. The seller had his friend, an engine guy from a dealership that normally works on Subaru's put it on. It was the Continental Belt kit.
Anyhow, after picking it up, I drove it home about 10 miles, no problem. Next day took it for a quick 1 mile drive, CEL comes on. Wife drove it 1/2 mile, running rough, parks it in the garage. Now it wouldn't start - cranks, almost catches, but doesn't.
Pulled the code: p0014, "camshaft position sensor actuator b-bank 1 timing over advanced."
Frog around; double check belt timing, make sure VVT solenoid is working ok.
Noticed the tensioner indicator is pointing about 2 o'clock position when it should be about 12 o'clock. Got the instructions for setting the tensioner, re-set it according to the instructions. Tried starting, fired right up. No CEL since then.

My '00 S40 is behaving similarly, though it will generally catch eventually and run like garbage. It's throwing P0014's along with misfire codes (and coolant codes, but i'm pretty sure my coolant sensor is dead).
We've disassembled to see the timing belt, and the notches line up just like they should.
I'm wondering how do you check the VVT solenoid? Will it click when 12V is applied if it's working properly? I took off the housing and removed the solenoid to look for sludge buildup, but it just looked like oil, nothing overly viscous.
