Default no fuel filter?

hi...any help would be greatly appreciated...i have a 2004 s60 with the 2.5 turbo i bought a fuel filter watched some videos. but when i went to replace it it isn't where its suppose to be. i looked under the car pass. side in front of wheel. not there...checked all over under the car as well as under the hood. just wondering if maybe in the gas tank...anyone with this same problem? like i said any help will be greatly appreciated.

You must have a metal fuel tank. Those have no external filter.

Only the external ones are replaced as part of the maintenance schedule (every 105,000 miles).
