I'm considering a used 2012 s60 for my wife, it's got around 100k miles on it, has whichever package with the backup camera, nav, sunroof and etc. It's selling for around 13k. I'm wondering if there is anything in particular that I should be wary of or ask about? I'm thinking it might make sense to ask if the timing belt has been changed yet, and I read in here that some 2012's burned oil. One member mentions checking the vin for that, I have the vin, but I'm not clear on how to check it to see if it's impacted by the oil burning issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Timing belt isn't due until 120k if its a 5 cylinder. If its a 6 cylinder, there is no belt.

If the engine code is 62, it had problems burning oil. Though it would have come up by now. And there is a recall that changes the oil requirements to synthetic.

 

Thanks, good to know... it is a 62, hopefully the recall was done if needed.

 

I should rephrase that. Not all with engine 62 experienced problems. That was the engine that had them though which is why the recall was issued. If you post the VIN, I can see if it was done and when.
