I have a 06 s60,70kmiles,2.5t. I am getting this noise that sounds like it is coming from under the dash on the passenger side. It's hard to describe, but it sounds like a small motor or pump turning on and off. It also seems to do this mostly when the engine is still cold. The dealer says that it is supposed to do that, and it is related to the ABS system. Is that true? Any thoughts?
Also, there is a broken hose that I think is called the turbo intake hose. I'm wondering if the two things are related.

 

I have the same problem - sounds like something scraping/scratching. Mine's a 2004 S80, recently acquired.

 

When the car is stated and moves approximately 100 feet the ABS does a system check that sounds like a scrape, that part of what the dealer said is true.
If you have a broken turbo intake pipe, that can emit a variety of sounds and not very good on the engine.

 

I recently posted a photo of a broken hose, not knowing what it was. Could this be the turbo intake pipe?

 

Had it checked by a Volvo specialist. He said the noise is from worn out motors that adjust the air vents.
