Depends on what type of oil you use. If using dyno, every 5k. If synthetic blend every 7500. If full synthetic no more than every 10k. I have an older car and do 5k changes with full synthetic.

A lot of people think "oh, technology changes so much in 18 years" but not so with some things. A combustion car motor's oil system hasn't changed that much in 20 years. Heck, between 1963 and 1988 the Volvo I4 hadn't changed a lot, that's why the thing was so solid and able to rack up so many miles.

As for the filters, use OEM or Mann. All other's are way behind.

I run Castrol Edge in my wife's 08 Volvo. I've sent two oil analysis' on it to Blackstone Labs at 7500 miles and both have come back with the oil in good shape. We do 90% road driving...very little stop and go so that'll make a difference also. The last one I sent Blackstone recommended running 10,000 miles...but since the monitor goes off at 7500 that makes it easy to continue that interval.
I would recommend a full synthetic and the 7500 mile oil run.

Yes, you need the specific filter wrench to take off the filter.

I am not sure what is the size for the new volvo, I think it is this one
Lisle 14500 Oil Filter Socket"><span style=Lisle 14500 Oil Filter Socket" /> Lisle 14500 Oil Filter Socket">Lisle 14500 Oil Filter Socket

Can any one confirm this?
