Default Oil Leaking

Two weeks ago I was getting an check engine light which I later found out meant the third cylinder was misfiring. I got the spark plug and coil replaced but now have an oil leak. I just removed the plastic cover next to the oil cap and noticed the top of the engine full of oil. This is part that reads "Volvo" and covers all of the wires. Any ideas? My car is a 2002 S60

This isn't a "Forum Issue". Thusly I am moving it.

It sounds like the rubber seal on the oil cap is leaking. If you remove the oil cap and turn it over, you see a flat rubber seal usually gets old and leaks. They are really cheap from your dealer.

You might also want to make sure the vent system isn't clogged.

I'm pretty sure it's not the oil cap. I didn't notice there was oil on the top of the engine until I was some oil around the rim of the screw head that holds on the cover. I took those eight screws out and pulled off the plastic cover to find that area full of oil. My dip-stick was still reading normal. I wonder if they over filled it at Firestone.

I don't know how to check the vent system....

Assuming that the VVT solenoid is bolted on securely (it controls oil flow to the VVT actuator on the exhaust cam) and isn't leaking then it is either the cap gasket as Ihatespeedbumps mentioned or maybe it was sloppily-filled by a lube tech. If it is dirty oil, I would suspect the oil cap or VVT solenoid. Either should be pretty evident if you are looking at them without the coil covers on. Look again - maybe you'll find the culprit.

I took my car in to Volvo to have it serviced. They said the problem was washer on the oil cap and the gasket between the engine and the transmission. I told them I didn't think the cap was the problem but asked them to proceed. Yesterday I noticed the car is still leaking. Driving up to my garage, there's a drop every couple of feet but I don't see it dripping when it's in park. I'm going to look at it again today. Thanks!

I cleaned all of the oil off the top of the engine and took the car out for a couple of hours. When I got back I checked the engine and oil is accumulating in the top/back right corner. I have no idea where it's coming from and I worried the dealership can't figure it out either.

Is all around the oil cap wet?

If so then the Vent system might be clogged causing it to still come out of the cap.

No, it's not wet around the cap at all.

The VVT solenoid is at the passenger rear corner of the valve cover - are you sure that's not it?
