Oil warning
Omen? What's that? He may have a bad oil pump or more likely a bad oil pump pick up seal which is common with the I5 motors. The pan will have to be dropped and a new seal installed.
How long of a test drive did he take?

So this brings up a question. I had this happen last week low oil pressure light for 2 seconds and then off. Took to Dealer they notice there was no oil registering on the dipstick. They recommended and engine oil flush and to monitor.
This has me concerned as I just had the oil breather replaced change before this because of high oil consumption $800. so I was shocked to hear there was no oil registering again.. This engine compartment shows no leaks and there is no burning smell or visibly.
So did I damage the engine with the light coming on What should I do, compression check?
What should be my next step with this vehicle, where is the oil going?
This is an 05 S60 No Turbo.
Any help or Ideas is appreciated.

A lady I know locked up the motor in her car driving around with low oil pressure. Had plenty of oil so making sure it's topped off with low pressure will do little good. Especially if the oil is not getting through the motor property.
@ Cuppa: A clogged PCV can cause oil blow by so it is good that you had the system replaced. The good thing about these motors is that they have a large oil sump. Most cars with the same size motors only have a 4 quart pan, my car takes 6-1/2 quarts. I have seen these down 3 to 4 quarts with no evidence of damage. The only true way to know is to send the drained oil to a lab for an analysis (check for metal). You can also do a compression test to see if there was piston wear/damage. Other than that there is no other way to know unless you experience other symptoms like ticking valves, smoking, etc. As long as the motor parts are not starved for oil all should be well.
If you ever find the oil off the stick I would suggest changing the oil immediately. As far as someone suggesting that you monitor the level, that should always be done. It only takes a minute, do it weekly until you know how much the car is using/loosing. After that, no less than monthly or every 1,000 miles.

If the light came on because the level was low, your oil pick up is likely fine. Unless the light comes on with good level, I wouldn't give it a second thought, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.
