Pass Airbag Off Service Urgent
PROBLEM: My '08 Volvo S60 display reads "PASS AIRBAG OFF SERVICE URGENT".
BACKGROUND: Costco replaced x4 tires and x2 TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors) and spent 45 minutes connected to the diagnostic port unsuccessfully attempting to clear the "low tire pressure" warning on the dash display. I drove into the parking lot and discovered x2 error messages "pass airbag off service urgent" and "low tire pressure" (low pressure error went away after 15 minutes of driving). Reported issue to Costco and took car to dealer.
DEALER EVAL: Error code SRS-025E Occupant weight sensor internal fault. Replacement cost $1868.21 parts and $405 labor.
MY REACTION: You got to be kidding me. They were not.
Any suggestions on how to proceed? Could the have corrupted the car's computer software when attempting to reset the error messages? Can the computer be reloaded or rebooted. What is the troubleshooting process for this issue? Any help will be most appreciated.

Yes, this is entirely possible. I went and replaced 4 tires at Discount Tire. One wheel sensor was out, or rather low battery, and was subsequently replaced. Discount Tired plugged in a tool into my OBD2 under the drivers side dash, and tried to reset the TPMS; unfortunately they triggered the passenger airbag off urgent light.
The TPMS stayed on until after I got onto freeway, then turned off. The airbag light stayed on. I went back to Discount Tire, and off course, you guessed it: they insisted they did nothing wrong. Suffice it to say, I went directly to the Volvo dealership, and at a cost of $170, was told the fault code was triggered and stored into the dim module and was a fault/error/overload from a reset tool not designed for volvo. Moreover, since the TPMS on Volvos are self learning, any interference with relearning will result in error codes into the Dim module, and not the OBD (CAN’T just unplug battery to reset.) I didn’t try to disconnect battery; only told by service advisor, so I don’t know if others have had luck with disconnecting either way...
Lesson learned at $170: do not let tire dealer plug anything into OBD port to reset anything on your Volvo, and should it happen as an oversight, then see if other area dealers or shops will reset light as a courtesy, found out I could have saved $170, and some time. Ugh, lol.

Making this account just to add to the list of people who've had this happen. TPMS light was on, replaced all 4 sensors when I purchased new tires because my s60 is 12 years old and decided it was probably legit. Guy had problems resetting the TPMS and when I got in the car after the work was completed, my SRS warnings and Pass Airbag Off Service Urgent lights were on. Guy said he just figured they had been on when I brought the car in and offered to give me a phone number I could call that would recommend a discount place to get it fixed. Tires were cheap, but the service at costco was cheaper, as in, I wont be doing that again.
I did the same.. 2007 xc90. Three days ago, Discount tire replaced two front tires and two new TMPS sensors. As all others havr shared, my warning light for Pass Airbag Off Service Urgent is haunting me. I have a Volvo comparable OBD2 reader. Fault code shows there is no communication with weight sensor. !?!???

I got exactly same story, I replaced S60 4X TPM sensors at Costco , after that, pass airbag off service urgent message pop up and airbag warning light on. Looked at paperwork from Costco Tire center, said they tried 4 types of tools to resent TPM sensor thru OBDII port but not success, talked to supervisor, he said the airbag light was on when he drove my car to replace TPM sensor and tire rotation. that is total not right. I believe it happened when Costco try to reset thru OBDII port, maybe damaged on board computer or input wrong code. Anyone has this kind of problem? Please provide solution from Costco that will be very appreciated.
