Default Please help! ('01 S60 T5 Fuel Injectors)

Hi, new to the forums and hopefully a Volvo owner for my first car =]

My father went out to the dealer and checked out this '01 S60 T5 for me. He said the exterior was excellent, but he noticed a problem. They took it inside for my father's request and he put a long screwdriver somewhere by the engine and put his ear on the screwdriver. He noticed that there's a slight knocking noise and concluded that it's the injectors.

So, I need help. Can anyone tell me if these injectors will be compatible with that car? My father was wondering how much the price would be for new injectors. I scrambled around and found these... Any good guys?

PS: What if the existing injectors are good in the S60 after all? The car only has a tad over 47K on it, but it's still a 12 year old model. Could it be a problem with the O rings? I don't have much of an idea, but I think you guys can help me! Thanks!

Someone? Anyone?

I'm also wondering about the issues I see that these cars have. I've been reading quite a bit about the issues that plague these cars. For example, hit or miss automatic trannys and bad ETMs? What's going on?

I doubt it needs injectors. I've only seen one go bad in my 10 years working on Volvo's.

Then what do you think could be the problem? Also, do you happen to have any insight on the other problems that people seem to have?

Hard to say without more info about the problem. You just said he noticed a problem. The injectors tick, that is normal. Is it running rough? Any warning lights or messages?

The throttle isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. Most have been replaced already. If it has a yellow sticker, it has been replaced.

No way to accurately tell if you'll have trans problems. The 01 seems to have more, but not nearly as common as the T6 XC90..

So slight injector ticking is fine for the S60? (just making sure)

The ETM is located where exactly? Could you tell me if it's in location 1 or 2 in this following picture? (probably wrong on both)

Yes, ticking means they are working.

In that picture, #1 is the throttle. But that is a non turbo. If it was turbo, it is located under the intake, near #2.

Ok, thank you. I was also wanting to answer your other question if it is running smoothly or not. My father drove it and he said it's fine. I wasn't there to see the car, but hopefully we'll be up there tomorrow. I just asked my father what was wrong with it, and he responded with "gas pressure light, they're replacing the bad J-hose, and a service engine light". O.o... Any clues? Shed some light?

He probably meant there was a check engine light with a code for a leak in the evaporative emissions system. The hose to the charcoal canister, often called the J-hose due to its shape, is a common place to leak.

Okay, thanks! Before me and my father go up to see and potentially buy the car... What should I be looking around for to judge the final decision of taking the car or leaving it for the dealer? Anything else that the S60's tend to have that I should totally steer away from? Thank you!

I'm really worried about the ETM issues, because I've seen threads relating to this issue and people are disgusted by it.

1) If there's a yellow sticker on that component, does that mean I'm good to go and I shouldn't worry about it at all? Meaning, the recalled problem has been corrected, and the new yellow-tagged ETM performs like it really SHOULD have? 2) If it's not yellow-tagged...

Would this be a solid fix? 3) Or could the problem be the whole ETM body? If I have to go along this repair procedure, I'd like to clean the inside of the ETM body thoroughly. 4) What should I use to clean the inside of it so it yields original performance? I'm sorry, but I really need to figure this out before I go and see the car. My father and I appreciate the honest help here, seriously!

Not really anything special about the S60 as opposed to another P2. Certainly not much you can tell from looking at it sitting on the ground. A good check of the front suspension wouldn't hurt. Check for a sticker indicating timing belt replacement.

If the throttle has a yellow sticker, you likely won't have any problems. To clean it, use carb cleaner on a rag. Don't spray anything directly into the throttle.

I've never swapped the sensors because we can't warranty a repair like that at the dealer so I can't comment on that.

I apologize, but we ended up not getting the S60. Instead I found an S80, and my and I ended up getting that one instead. It's a T6 model with only 62K on it =]

An older T6 or a new T6? I assume older, in which case I would have gone with the S60.
